Playtonic Games has officially announced Super Yooka-Laylee Kart, a new arcade racing game inspired by the classic era of Super Nintendo kart racers while introducing modern gameplay mechanics and competitive features.
Players will race as Yooka, Laylee, and several familiar characters across fast-paced tracks that reward skillful driving. A new gameplay mechanic called Rage gives racers special abilities that can help them recover after falling behind or being hit by opponents, adding a strategic layer to every race.
Visually, the game pays clear tribute to the original Super Mario Kart on the SNES, while maintaining its own identity through updated visuals, colorful environments, and new gameplay ideas.
Playtonic has confirmed that the game will feature a full single-player Story Mode packed with races, time trials, and special events. In addition, players will be able to enjoy both local and online multiplayer with support for up to eight players.
Online multiplayer will also include private lobbies, custom tournaments, and extensive race rule customization, giving players plenty of ways to compete with friends.
Super Yooka-Laylee Kart was officially revealed during the Day of the Devs showcase. The developers also announced that a public PC demo featuring online multiplayer will be available soon, allowing players to test the game before release.
At launch, Super Yooka-Laylee Kart has only been confirmed for PC. Console versions are planned to arrive at a later date, although no release window has been announced yet.
